Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: Youth & Government Conference Returns to Sacramento
More than 2,500 middle and high school students gathered in Sacramento for the annual YMCA Youth & Government Conference — a four-day, immersive experience designed to bring civic leadership to life.
Throughout the conference, students stepped into the roles of legislators, attorneys, judges, and media members, gaining hands-on experience in how government functions. Participants debated bills on the chamber floor, argued cases in mock trials, and collaborated on policy proposals that reflect real-world issues facing their communities.
The program emphasizes leadership development, critical thinking, and public speaking, empowering students to find their voice and engage in meaningful dialogue. For many, it’s their first opportunity to experience the legislative process firsthand — building both confidence and a deeper understanding of civic responsibility.
By the end of the conference, students leave not only with new skills, but with a renewed sense of purpose and connection to their communities. The YMCA Youth & Government program continues to inspire the next generation of leaders, equipping young people with the tools they need to actively participate in shaping California’s future.
